Shahzada Dawood, the British Pakistani businessman and adventurer, and his teenage son, Suleman, met a devastating fate while aboard the Titan submersible during their exploration of the Titanic wreckage.

Authorities believe the submersible experienced a “catastrophic implosion,” resulting in the loss of Mr. Dawood, 48, who served as the vice chairman of Engro Corporation in Pakistan. The Dawood family, renowned for their wealth, emphasized Mr. Dawood’s dedication to renewable energy and technology.

Mr. Dawood, an alumnus of Buckingham University where he studied law, and a holder of a master’s degree in global textile marketing from Philadelphia University, earned recognition as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2012. Suleman, his 19-year-old son, was a business student at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.
